The powerful local scene
The Host City Salzburg will fully rely on its powerful local scene. There will be no appearances by pop icons such as Elton John but the local potential on artists will be fully exploited in the course of the social program for the UEFA EURO 2008TM.
The EURO 2008 will open each day in Salzburg with Big Papa, a water fountain shooting 50 meters high, between the Makart and Mülln Bridges.
The opening festivities “Servus Europa - fans will be friends” in the Fan Zone (Sat., June 7, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.) will offer a mix of pop music, folk culture, classical music and video art.
Other events on the program:
- “Heimspiel” (home game): 15 local bands will perform for an hour to put the audience in the right mood for the matches
- Native music for the fans from Greece, Sweden, Spain and Russia on the three match days
- “Europe live in Salzburg”: on four days, natives living in Salzburg will talk about their countries on the Fan Zone stage before the match is broadcast
- Fan Zone visitors can look forward to two highlights (free admission) on the two days without football prior to the final tournament (Sun., June 29): Salzburg’s Brass Band Society will present entertaining brass music on Friday, June 27 from 4:30 to 10:00 p.m.: a marching band show on the lawn, presentation of the 16 national anthems, youth bands with entertainment sections.
- Saturday, June 28, the Lungau Big Band will invite listeners to a top-of-the-line concert: the LBB together with the London-based singer, Tony Momrelle, will get Residence Square swinging with their big-band soul and funk rhythms.
The individual projects are described in detail in the City of Salzburg’s press release. The press release also includes the play list and a brief description of the bands.
